Job Vacancy Announcement – Project Assistant, MFWA-EU Project in Guinea-Bissau

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), with funding from the European Union, is implementing a major three-year project to support the media sector in Guinea-Bissau. The project, entitled “Promoting media freedom and access to quality information in Guinea-Bissau“, aims to strengthen professionalism in the media, promote freedom and the quality of media content in order to contribute to democratization and peace in the country.

MFWA is looking for a qualified candidate to join the MFWA team as a Project Assistant to support the implementation of the project.

The ideal candidate should have a good knowledge of media and press freedom issues, a considerable understanding of the media context in Guinea Bissau and be familiar with the implementation of the media sector support project. The candidate should also have a good knowledge of and experience in project management and general administration.

The selected candidate will report directly to the Project Coordinator.

Functions

The Candidate will work with the Project Coordinator and Manager and will assist in the following aspects:

  • Planning and implementation of approved project activities, including interactions with key project partners and stakeholders (i.e. state and non-state actors)
  • Organization of workshops and events, project follow-up meetings and site visits
  • Writing project activity reports
  • Supporting the visibility and reach of the project
  • Proposing ideas for effective project implementation
  • Carrying out other administrative tasks that may be assigned

Requirements

Education: Degree in journalism, project management, social sciences, or a related field. Or a diploma with at least five years’ relevant experience in the media sector

Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of experience in program or project management, media capacity building initiatives, press freedom advocacy, research and report writing. Experience in the civil society/NGO sector is a distinct advantage. A track record of strong writing, analysis and report writing skills will be an added advantage.

This position is only open to qualified people based in Guinea Bissau.

Language: Candidates must be able to speak and write Portuguese. The ability to speak and/or write in English and/or French will be a great advantage.

Location: The employee will be based in Guinea Bissau.

Contract terms: Three years, with contract renewal every year.
