AMPROCS

The Association of Women Professionals in Social Communication in Guinea-Bissau (AMPROCS) is a non-profit association bringing together women professionals working in the media and communication sector in Guinea-Bissau.

AMPROCS works to promote gender equality in the media, strengthen the participation and leadership of women journalists, and support professional and ethical journalism. The organisation also advocates for women’s rights, freedom of expression, and inclusive representation within media spaces.

Through partnerships and capacity-building initiatives, AMPROCS contributes to strengthening both women’s participation and the broader media landscape in Guinea-Bissau.

Mission

  • To promote gender equality, the empowerment of women, and to ensure their advancement in the media.
  • To encourage the active participation of women professionals in social communication in debates and reflections surrounding their activities.
  • To promote access for women journalists and technicians to all levels of decision-making in media organisations, in order to reverse the current situation.
  • To contribute to capacity building in different fields, not only for women journalists, but for all Guinean journalists in general, and to fight against all forms and manifestations of prejudice and discrimination.
  • To contribute to freedom of expression, good governance, and the building of a democratic society in the country.
  • To defend women’s rights and human rights.

Objectives

  1.  To promote the rights and improve the working conditions of women professionals in their respective media organisations.
  2. To challenge and change the negative narrative and stereotypical image perpetuated in the media and other communication spaces regarding the role of women in society.
  3. To encourage the revision of social media legislation in the country, in order to reflect a more inclusive language that is sensitive to gender issues.
  4. To defend the legitimate advancement of women to leadership positions within the media profession.
  5. To promote the practice of quality and independent journalism (especially) among women professionals in the media.
