One of the main obstacles to defending freedom of expression in Guinea-Bissau is the lack of credible and accessible data on violations of this right. To address this problem, a Freedom of Expression Monitoring Tool was developed, adapted to media actors in Guinea-Bissau with the support of the MFWA, with the aim of tracking and reporting cases of violations, including digital rights, in the country.
After being validated at a meeting in Bissau, where representatives of various media organizations were trained in its use, the Instrument was approved and adopted. It will allow media actors to record and document incidents of violations, analyzing and publishing this data in quarterly and annual reports.
The “Press Freedom Action” group was established to coordinate the monitoring, validation and dissemination of data on violations of freedom of expression. Data sources include media reports, direct reports and shares in WhatsApp groups.
