The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), with funding from the European Union, is implementing a major three-year project to support the media sector in Guinea-Bissau. The project, entitled “Promoting media freedom and access to quality information in Guinea-Bissau“, aims to strengthen professionalism in the media, promote freedom and the quality of media content in order to contribute to democratization and peace in the country.
The MFWA is looking for a qualified candidate to join the MFWA team on a part-time basis as the project’s Communications Officer. The ideal candidate should have a good knowledge of media and press freedom issues, with strong written and digital media communication skills.
This position is only open to qualified prospects who are based in Guinea Bissau.
The successful candidate must be able to devote at least 25% of their working time to the project. The person will be accountable to the Project Manager.
Functions
The Candidate will work with the Project Manager and Coordinator and will be responsible for the following:
- Support for the development and implementation of the project’s communication strategy/plan and the coordination of project communication and publicity
- Creation and management of various aspects of the project’s social media platforms;
- Publication of news and events about the project and project-related activities on all media platforms;
- Writing content for publication on websites and in the media;
- Liaise with the MFWA Communications Program Officer so that project content is widely shared across MFWA networks
- Perform any other function assigned by the Project Manager or Coordinator
Requirements
Education: Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, or related disciplines
Experience: Candidates must have at least five years’ experience of using the Internet and social media platforms as a means of communication. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce written and multimedia content related to the project and its objectives.
Language: Candidates must be able to speak and write Portuguese. The ability to speak and/or write in English and/or French will be a great advantage.
Location: The employee will be based in Guinea Bissau.
Contract terms: Three years, with contract renewal every year.
