The MFWA has received a grant from the European Union for a three-year project to support the media sector in Guinea-Bissau. The project is entitled: Promoting Media Freedom and Access to Quality Information in Guinea-Bissau.
General objective of the project:
The project aims to ensure that journalists and other media actors in Guinea-Bissau are safe and secure, and that they produce ethical, timely and fact-based journalistic content that promotes peaceful coexistence and allows public access to quality information in an environmentally sustainable manner.
The project in Guinea-Bissau is also collaborating with selected state actors/institutions, such as the police, the army, regulatory bodies, the judiciary and the human rights commission; media actors and media organizations, to increase their knowledge of human rights issues and media and freedom partnerships to promote and protect press freedom and freedom of expression in the country.
Purpose/Scope of Consultation
This call is divided into two parts:
- The development of a customized Training Manual on Media, Freedom of Expression and Digital Rights for state actors/institutions in Guinea-Bissau.
- The Training Manual should be adapted to the needs of the state actors/institutions selected by the project, such as the police, army, regulatory bodies, judiciary and human rights commission. It should reflect and take into account the context and gaps in human rights issues (especially the rights of the press and expression) on the part of the selected state actors/institutions and how the Training Manual will help build their capacity.
- It is hoped that the Training Manual will be adopted by state actors/institutions as a capacity-building tool to increase their knowledge of human rights and media issues and build partnerships to promote and protect press freedom and freedom of expression.
- Training workshop for representatives of the selected state actors/institutions
- This is a follow-up activity to the development of the Training Manual.
- It is expected to be a two-day event;
- The capacity-building workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of the state actors/institutions listed above in human rights (with an emphasis on media and expression rights) and how to increase collaboration with media actors to protect media and expression rights, and remedy violations of these rights.
