The MFWA has received a grant from the European Union for a three-year project to support the media sector in Guinea-Bissau. The project is entitled: Promoting Media Freedom and Access to Quality Information in Guinea-Bissau.
General Project Objective:
The project seeks to ensure that journalists and other media actors in Guinea-Bissau are safe and produce ethical, timely and fact-based journalistic content that promotes peaceful coexistence and allows public access to quality information in a sustainable way.
The project in Guinea-Bissau is also collaborating with key state actors/institutions, such as the police, military, regulatory bodies, the judiciary and the human rights commission; media actors and media organizations to increase their knowledge of human rights and press issues and build partnerships to promote and protect press freedom and freedom of expression in the country.
Purpose/Scope of Consultancy:
The aim of the call is to provide in-house training for journalists and media managers from 10 leading media organizations in Guinea-Bissau in professional reporting, accountability journalism, fact-checking, digital security, media ethics and media management.
- Training for media organizations should enable beneficiaries to improve their skills through in-house practical and theoretical mentoring and coaching;
- The Consultant will spend 5 days with each of the selected media organizations and will focus on developing the team’s capacity in professional reporting, accountability journalism, fact-checking, digital security, media ethics and media management.
- The training will also cover skills-building on the role of the media in promoting peace and countering extremist radicalization.
