
The MFWA has received a grant from the European Union for a three-year project to support the media sector in Guinea-Bissau. The project is entitled: Promoting media freedom and access to quality information in Guinea-Bissau.
General objective of the project:
The project seeks to ensure that journalists and other media actors in Guinea-Bissau are safe and protected, and produce ethically appropriate, timely and fact-based journalistic content that promotes peaceful coexistence and allows the public access to quality information in a sustainable manner.
The project in Guinea-Bissau is also establishing partnerships with key state actors/institutions, such as the Police, the Military, Media Regulatory Authorities, the Judiciary and the National Human Rights Commission; Media Bodies and Journalist Class Organizations, with the aim of increasing their knowledge of human rights and media issues, creating partnerships to promote and protect press freedom and freedom of expression in the country.
Purpose of the consulting assignment
The aim of this consultancy is to work with state and non-state actors in Guinea-Bissau to develop a comprehensive national framework on the safety of journalists through a joint process involving media and state actors.
The aim of this activity is to promote collaboration between the relevant state institutions and local media actors in developing a joint framework and mechanism to promote and protect the safety of journalists, as well as providing platforms for dealing with violations against media personnel.
The Comprehensive Framework on the Safety of Journalists will define the roles and responsibilities of all the actors concerned.
