In addition to what happened in Bissau, on July 10, 2023, the study report “Conditions for women and men journalists in Guinea-Bissau” was also presented in Gabu, with the representations of RENARC, SINJOTECS, the Order of Journalists and the LGDH.
This presentation was attended by around thirty journalists from community radio stations in the Gabu Bafatá region.
On the occasion, the representative of the Guinean Human Rights League (LGDH), Cabi Sanhá, made a point of praising the work now being done by the AMPROCS team in collaboration with ACEP and encouraged journalists, especially women, to read the report in order to correct certain vicissitudes affecting the profession.
The president of AMPROCS introduced the essential points of the study, associated with the lack of economic independence for journalists, gender inequality in the Guinean press and the interference of political power in journalists’ tasks. The event also explained the stages in the production of the study report on “Conditions for Women and Men Journalists in Guinea-Bissau”, calling on journalists to always report situations of harassment, which is still considered taboo in Guinean society.
On behalf of the governor, Levi da Costa called on the press in the region to take into account the data released by the study and to internalize the principle of neutrality and objectivity in the treatment of information.
Presentation of the Report

AMPROCS expert, Baducaram Imbenque, presents the report “Conditions for Journalists in Guinea-Bissau”
During the presentation, the author of the report said that the study in question looked at the issue of gender equality, the economic situation of journalists, the relationship between journalists and power, as well as the training of Guinean press staff.
During the debate, the participants said that the results of the study presented here are an X-ray of the scenarios inherent in the Guinean press and lamented the situation of the lack of economic independence of Guinean media professionals, a situation that often discredits the activities of press professionals.
Also during the debate, the question was raised: “What attitude should a journalist who works every day but has no salary have?”

In response, the presenter assured that bribery in the journalistic profession is serious and does not dignify press professionals, so much so that he called for maximum respect for the ethical and deontological principles of journalists, instruments that guarantee greater neutrality and objectivity of journalists in the exercise of their profession.
Recommendations

Presentation of the recommendations of the report on “Conditions for women and men journalists in Guinea-Bissau”.
In her recommendations, the president of AMPROCS advised press professionals to report any attempts at sexual and moral harassment and to fight hard to ensure that gender inequality is banished. On the other hand, she urged the professionals present to always follow ethical principles when handling information.
